Mother's Day In Summerland, CA

I couldn't have had a more fun and beautiful Mother's Day! We headed to Summerland, CA and my goal was to go sea glass hunting. I didn't find one shard of sea glass...but Sunshine did find a red balloon floating and bouncing off the tide! Also got some great pics of a pod of dolphins very close to the shore!

Like A Girl: Perspectives on Feminine Identity

Several of my photos will be included in this highly anticipated anthology published by Lucid Moose Lit. I seriously cannot wait. Lucid Moose Lit recently published ( one of my photos was included in this one) Gutters And Alleyways: Perspectives on Poverty and Struggle.

Urban Ocean Poetry Book ( More Good News)

I found out yesterday from the coordinator of the Urban Ocean Poetry Contest that a book is currently in production. The book will consist of all the contest winners since its inception in 2009. Now that's exciting and I can't wait until it's finished!

Sent By Jesus Dot Com

This card is available through the website Sent By Jesus ( along with some other fabulous Christian stationery). Yesterday I mailed it to a friend who entered the 12 Steps program for addiction a few years ago. He is currently sober for 11 years this year. I thought this card was fitting for his progress and uplifting for his journey.

Psalm 27:13 and my friend DJ

I'm finally getting around to examining and joyfully reading my friend DJ's journals. DJ was in my second grade class room in elementary school.  Although we grew up in the same neighborhood we weren't friends. However, in 2011 we connected  through Facebook. Now outside of Facebook and social media, we are friends .
DJ is interested in putting a book together based on the writing in his journals as well as his life experience.  One of the many things I appreciate is DJ's level of optimism and faith no matter the circumstances ( it hasn't always been that way with him). He approaches his life experiences with humor and down to earthness ( yeah I made that word up, lol). Although DJ's writing is fruitful with bible scriptures, there is one that he repeatedly writes, quotes, and reveres. This scripture is:

Psalm 27:13New International Version (NIV)
13 I remain confident of this:
I will see the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living.

I will keep you posted on this interesting journey of ours. Stay tuned!

Urban Ocean Poetry Contest ( I won 1st Place)

Yaaaaay! Today was the  Sixth Annual Urban Ocean Poetry Contest Awards in the Ocean Theater at the Aquarium of the Pacific. I found out that I won 1st Place! The winning piece is entitled Blue Crisis. My friend Lethia accompanied me at the awards and on the Urban Ocean Poetry Cruise. There were some fabulous poets who read as well. I took some great photos as well.  Last year I won first place in digital photography!

Blue Crisis

 We are the stewards of

earth and ocean

regardless of the texture of our hair

or shade of our skin.

We are responsible for this

galactic ball of dirt and spit

that we’ve helped

contaminate

corrupt

congeal.

We have to be fierce

with warrior like mentality

symbolically

brandishing sword and shield

to protect our oceans

and its inhabitants

from ourselves.

We are in a state of

emergency

 a blue crisis

as floating garbage dumps

drift on salty blue.

We are slowly poisoning

the amniotic fluid

of  Mother Earth

So we need to step up

clean up, shape up or ship out.

We are in a blue crisis

and truly it is up to us

to bring back harmony

and stability to the

oceanic womb

of the world.
